Why has MTN adopted a new network code?
As a result of the increasing demand for MTN’s superior value proposition, MTN is near exhausting the limit of numbers for the 024 network code.MTN has been allocated another network code by the NCA which starts with 054.

Why would MTN seek to add on more subscribers and not concentrate on improving service quality to those already on the network?
MTN is committed to delivering world class telecommunication services and is mindful of its responsibilities towards existing subscribers. To this end, MTN continues to invest significantly towards Network improvement. This involves a range of initiatives geared towards improving the current network experience for existing subscribers.Also, it falls within MTN plans to ensure a constant supply of numbers to accommodate the increasing numbers of customers.

Was the 054 code the best option? Why did MTN not progress to 025 or 026, for instance?
This is not within MTN’s control but the preserve of the regulator. What is reassuring is the fact that the addition of a new network code will not lead to compromises in service quality. Subscribers will continue to enjoy MTN’s superior value proposition including segmented value added packages, fantastic discount, widest network coverage and dedicated customer service.

Would the new code apply to all MTN subscribers?
No. The new network code will apply to only new subscribers. In essence, the new network code 054 does not replace the 024.However; the 054 will be issued to both Pay Monthly (Postpaid) and Pay As You Go (Prepaid).

When will the new network code be effective?
The new network code will be made available to new subscribers from January, 15 2009.

Will the SIM (chip) be any different from what we have on the market?
There will be no difference between a SIM (chip) bearing the new network code-054 and the existing network code-024 apart from the 054 which will be indicated with the number of the SIM.

Will the cost be the same as it is for 024?
The cost will be the same. As explained there will be no differences; except for the prefix (first three digits).Both will have 10 digits; for instance 024-XXXXXXX and 054-XXXXXXX.

What happens with existing customers with the prefix (first three digits)-024?
Existing customers can continue using their 024 numbers to make and receive calls.

Can subscribers continue to purchase the 024 numbers already on the market?
Subscribers can continue to purchase such numbers. These numbers will continue to be sold alongside the new network code-054.MTN will thus have two network codes on the market -024 and 054.Both will continue to benefit from MTN’s superior value proposition.

What would MTN to MTN operators do differently with the addition of a new network code-054?
MTN to MTN operators making calls or sending SMSs must include the relevant  prefix to the number being dialed i.e. 024 or 054 prefix + the customer’s unique number. Example 024 XXXXXXX or 054 XXXXXXX, making 10 digits, not 7.

What would EVD operators (space to space) do differently with the addition of a new network code-054?
EVD Retailers doing a Credit Transfer must include the relevant prefix to the number being dialed, i.e. 024 or 054 prefix + the customers’ unique number. Example, 024 XXXXXXX or 054 XXXXXXX, making 10 digits, not 7.

What is the process for international calls?
People calling from outside Ghana will have to dial +233 54 XXXXXXX (for 054) and the usual +233 24 XXXXXXX (for 024)

Does my message centre number change when I activate a 054 number?
No. The MTN message centre number remains the same. 024 4500000.

Will I enjoy all the benefits available on 024 on my 054 number?
Yes all MTN products and services are available on both 024 and 054.
