What is General Payment?
General Payment is an MTN Mobile Money product that enables individuals or corporate entities make payment for goods and services including online transactions
Who can use General Payment?
Both registered MM subscribers and also for non-registered MM subscribers through merchants.
How do I load money into my Mobile Money Wallet?
Visit any Merchant Outlet, Partner Bank branch or MTN service center by giving out physical cash for its equivalent of electronic cash or through Bank Integration.
How can I access my Mobile Money account via the Internet?
Log on at https://196.201.56.109/index.htmland enter your phone number. A 6 digit number would be displayed on the screen. Go to Mobile Money, then My Wallet, Select My Web Login and enter the 6 digit number that was displayed on the screen(should be done within 60 seconds). Your account would now be accessible.
How do I verify the institution I’m making payments to?
You can verify by entering your Invoice Code and Mobile Money Pin, then wait for a confirmation flash message displaying the information of the institution.
How do I confirm the amount I’m paying?
You can confirm by entering your Invoice Code and Mobile Money Pin, then wait for a confirmation flash message displaying the information of the institution and the amount to be paid.
Would I get a receipt for payments made?
You would get a confirmation message on all payments made on your phone. You can also print a receipt via the internet by logging on and following the steps below;
- Go to Statement Enquires
- Select the date for payment
- Click Next and select the payment under Transaction Type
- Click on Printable Version
- Then Print
What do I enter as my Invoice number when making payments using MTN Mobile Money?
You must enter the exact invoice number, in the approved format given to you by the institution you are making payment to.
NB: The customer is responsible for giving the MTN cashier the payment code.
What happens when I make payment more than what I owe?
Where there is a specific amount to pay you can make payments of the exact amount you owe. Where amount to be paid has not been specified, you may pay more than you owe and the extra would still be credited to your account with the merchant.
What happens when I make payment less than what I owe?
Your transaction will not be successful
Can I make payments using General Payment when I’m out of the country?
Yes you can. The MTN Mobile Money service works on roaming.
How soon would the payments I make via General Payment reflect on the account of the Institution?
The institution will see the payment information in less than 5 minutes.
Will I be charged when I make payments via General Payment?
No. There are no charges but that will depend on the company
