Accra, 15th August, 2011 – The Corporate Communications department MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunications network provider in the country, engaged editors and senior media practitioners in the Northern Region as part of its annual editor’s fora held across the country to interact with the media and obtain feedback on the organisations operations. The forum provided the opportunity for the team to share information on the industry with the media to update them on MTN’s business operations and new projects being undertaken by the organisation. The Tamale forum followed similar programmes held earlier in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Volta regions. The forum brought together the Regional Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Executives, Editors and leading media personalities in the region. Some of the specific issues discussed at the forum included trends in the telecommunications industry, particularly, the Mobile Number Portability, the ongoing SIM Registration exercise, MTN Data Services and Corporate Responsibility initiatives by the MTN Ghana Foundation in the region and other parts of the country. MTN used the opportunity to express its gratitude to the media for the diverse ways in which they have supported MTN in disseminating information on its activities to the public. “If subscribers and the general public get to know about MTN’s world class products and services, CSR activities and other investments, it is because you the gatekeepers, have used your media channels to publicise them and we cannot thank you enough for that,” the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications of MTN, Mrs. Georgina Fiagbenu, said. Mrs. Fiagbenu reiterated MTN’s commitment to the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) exercise and appealed to the media to continue to educate the general public on the guidelines for porting as outlined by the NCA while encouraging those who have not registered their SIM cards to do so. “Both exercises are equally important and we continue to count on you to educate the public,” she added. She assured the media of MTN’s commitment to sustain these encounters to continue to share telecommunications industry information as well as partner the Ghanaian media to enhance the knowledge of the Ghanaian public with regard to telecommunication technology and ICT generally. She also provided an update on MTN foundation’s activities in the country. The Corporate Communications team also visited some media houses in Tamale as part of the regional engagement.
