Accra, 8th March, 2011- MTN Ghana, the leader in the Ghana’s telecommunications industry today hosted a mentoring session for female students from selected Senior High Schools across the country to mark the centenary celebration of the International Women’s Day.
The programme is to give the girls the opportunity to interact with successful women in senior management positions to share their success stories and encourage them to aspire to greater heights in education and achieve successes in their chosen professions in future.
The International Women’s Day is marked every year globally to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. The theme for this year’s celebration is “A Girl Today, A Leader Tomorrow”.
Mrs. Amma Benneh Amponsah, Human Resource Executive of MTN Ghana, who commented on the mentoring programme, expressed MTN’s commitment to support the development of the Girl Child to realize their aspirations and share MTN’s leadership value with them.
“MTN is always excited to take advantage of such opportunities to contribute to the development and education of our future generation and impact their lives positively.” she said.
Lady Pastor Adelaide Heyward Mills who was the guest speaker at the programme said” being a woman is a great responsibility and young girls must aspire to be successful”. She also congratulated all women in Ghana for their valuable contribution to National Development and also commended MTN for this mentorship programme for girls in senior high schools. She encouraged the MTN executives to do their best to nurture the young women.
The students were selected from some senior high schools in Accra including ; St Mary’s, Senior High, Labone Senior High , Accra Girls, O’reilly , Nungua senior high, Tema Senior High, Christian Methodist, Accra High And Achimota Senior High Schools. The girls will also spend the day with the female managers as they go through mentoring sessions. The MTN mentoring session was also carried out concurrently in the Central, Eastern, Western, Ashanti and Volta regions in the country and is expected to benefit hundred female students to aspire to greater heights in future.
