MTN commissions an Ultra Modern Switch Center in Kumasi


Kumasi, 24th March, 2011 - MTN Ghana has commissioned another ultra modern switch and data center in Kumasi to boost the quality of the network in that part of the country.

The USD 35 million switch site located at Kaase in Kumasi, is the second of such ultra modern sites constructed by MTN in the country to provide an improved network quality for its subscribers. The first of such switch sites was commissioned in 2009 at Sakaman, in Accra.

MTN has since coming into Ghana in 2007, continuously demonstrated its quest to giving its subscribers the best in network quality and service delivery. Consequently, it has over the years invested in world class technological infrastructure to upgrade and expand its network through state-of-the-art cell sites as well as fibre optic cables to enhance network quality and coverage. Ghana is the third in the MTN 21 Operating Countries where the facility has been put up and only next to South Africa, Nigeria and Iran in the MTN Group.

The MTN ultra modern switch site houses different telecommunications equipment such as switches which effectively manage calls between subscribers, and transmissions for managing fully meshed fiber optic network to ensure and maintain an even faster and better network quality. There is also a data centre for managing data services such as internet services and an energy centre that guarantees continues power supply to the systems.

Speaking at the launch in Kaase in the Ashanti region, the General Manager in charge of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Misto said: “MTN is committed to ensuring that its subscribers are provided with the best quality network that meets international standards at all times”. “These switch sites are one of the measures that MTN has put in place to ensure that the network quality that its subscribers enjoy is protected at all times even in the face of earthquakes and other natural disasters”, he added.
 
“We at MTN are happy with the investment that we have made to ensure continuous and consistent quality network delivery that our subscribers enjoy. The strategic placement of these ultra modern switch centres at three different locations is to ensure that even in the midst of natural disturbance and disasters; MTN is able to provide its over 9 million  valued customers with the best network service”, he said.

Mr. Misto noted that for MTN, what is of paramount is to make it possible for subscribers to be able to make and receive calls, enjoy the fastest internet and data services amongst others on a quality network. In this light, the third switch site is expected to be completed and commissioned soon in Accra.
