MTN Ghana gives laptops to five Senior High Schools


Accra 2nd February, 2011 - MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunications company in the country, today  presented  a total of fifteen (15) laptops, internet routers and free data to five Senior High Schools  (SHS) who participated in the 2010 Old Skuul Reunion text and win competition held in October 2010.  
The following schools emerged winners of the competition;

  • Apam Senior High School- Central Region
  • St. Pauls Senior High School- Volta Region
  • Okuapeman Senior High School- Eastern Region
  • Wesley Girls High School- Central Region
  • Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School- Ashanti Region

At separate ceremonies, held simultanoeusly at the schools, each of the winning schools were presented with three (3) laptops, an MTN internet router and 1 GB of free data every month for six (6) months.
Participating schools at the annual school reunion across the country were given the opportunity to text and win laptops and other computer accessories for their schools by texting the names of their schools to an MTN short code. The schools selected for the prizes were adjudged the Senior High Schools with the highest number of text messages.
Individual students  of the schools who sent in the most text messages for their schools also won a laptop each, an MTN 3.5G modem and free data for three months
The Acting Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, Clement Ofori Asante said MTN remains committed to the promotion of ICT use and education as we work to provide the best value propositions, quality network and service delivery and the biggest family in the country.
“We at MTN recognize the importance of ICT education and we are happy to support our Senior High Schools with the laptops and accessories to make ICT use friendlier.  We were also excited at the response to the competition by the old students in the country and the many text messages that came in indicated a clear interest in ICT.”
He assured old and current students of all SHS that MTN will continue to create such opportunities that will promote the use of ICT and increase the percentage of data penetration in Ghana.
