Accra, 4th May, 2010 – MTN, the number one telecommunications services provider is pleased to launch the 1Goal Education for All Campaign in Ghana. The campaign is a FIFA legacy project to help give children in developing markets access to education through awareness and support drives. The campaign is scheduled to take place from May 1st to 31st of July 2010.
As the official telecommunications sponsor and the first African company to sponsor the World Cup, MTN is inviting its employees, subscribers and all other stakeholders to join the signature Campaign. MTN employees in Ghana will all sign up collectively on May 4, 2010. This campaign will also be taking place concurrently in all 21 countries in which MTN operates to demonstrate the company’s corporate commitment in support of the initiative.
To support the project, MTN stakeholders are encouraged to text their names in full to MTN short code 1995 at no charge. Non MTN subscribers who wish to support the campaign can join by signing up at the website www.join1goal.org.
There are currently 75million children who are out of school throughout the world. The 1 Goal project will help provide access to classrooms, teachers and the future that education brings. The names collected during the campaign period will be presented to the UN General Assembly in Geneva during this year’s World Summit in September 2010 to compel governments to commit to ensuring that these educational goals are met.
MTN is optimistic that when children are educated, they can make more meaningful contributions to their families, communities and countries at large.
