Accra, March 1, 2010 – The employees of Scancom Limited MTN Ghana, the number one telecommunications service provider in Ghana with the support of all its stakeholders are pleased to extend support to Haiti in response to its immediate emergency needs after the country was hit by an earth quake a few weeks ago. In this regard, the employees of MTN have launched the “MTNers FOR HAITI 2010 Campaign” to give employees, subscribers and other stakeholders the opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause. The fundraising campaign in support of Haiti will be taking place concurrently in all 21 operating units of MTN. The initiative which was launched at the Head office of MTN Ghana will run till 30th March 2010.
With this effort, MTN will also be supporting the Africa for Haiti (www.africaforhaiti.com) campaign launched by eminent African leaders such as Graca Machel and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, amongst others, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation on 22 January 2010. MTN is using this opportunity to urge its subscribers to support all efforts aimed at raising funds for Haiti.
During the launch, MTN also announced the channels through which donations can be sent. A short code 1966 has been activated to enable all MTN subscribers who are willingly to support the fundraising initiative. Each text costs GHC 1:25. Donors can also make payments to a special account numbered 1070000021053 held at Fidelity Bank under Account Name: “MTN for Haiti”. Additional, donors can also support this initiative by transferring money through Mobile Money account number 0246300324.
