Accra December 3, 2009 The management of the MTN Ghana Foundation have assured Ghanaians that it will continue to make huge investments in Health and Education as it enters its third year. They also re-affirmed their commitment to ensuring the socio- economic development of the communites in which MTN operates through the implementation of sustainable social intervention projects which will help attain the Millenium Development Goals.
This was revealed at an impressive stakeholder engagement held in Accra. The event which brought together a section of Government officials, developments partners of the Foundation, Media personel and MTN employees was organised to celebrate the achievements of the MTN Foundation.
Brett Goschen, CEO of MTN Ghana said, "It is a key part of the MTN strategy to contribute to the welfare and development of local communities as it is the Ghanaian population that is the driving force behind our business success. MTN is thankful to Ghana and our Social Responsibility programs is one way we can give something back in support of economic development".
The MTN Foundation which was launched in Accra, Tamale and Sunyani two years ago have initiated significant number of projects. Its Flagship projects which are the refurbishment of the 2nd Floor of the Korle Bu Maternity Block and the establishment of the MTN ICT Learning Centres in 10 regions of Ghana have now become a benchmark for many businesses.
Another project which has been highly commended is the support given to the Princess Marie Louise Children's hospital for the construction of an Intensive Care Unit.
Mr Goschen added, "nothing is more rewarding than seeing how our investments are transforming the lives of people, especially children. I cherish the moments I have had at the children's hospital and some of the orphanages where I experienced first hand how some of our investments are touching lives".
Executive Director, Mawuena Dumor added, "we are very proud of our achievements which are aimed at supporting Government and our development partners to help enhance the well being of our communities. We have so far spent about GH¢2.5million and going forward, we will continue to partner with both international, local organisations and our staff to facilitate development.
