Accra September 25, 2009 – MTN, The leading telecommunications service provider in Ghana today donated an amount of GH¢ 10,000 and assorted items (MTN souvenirs, press advertisements, talk time, support for grand durbar, football gala and float) worth 17,000.00, totaling GH¢ 27,000 (Twenty Seven Thousand Ghana Cedis) to the Asogli State in support of this year’s celebration of the Asogli Yam festival.

A grand durbar of Chiefs and people of the traditional area will take place this weekend at Ho to climax the celebration.

This latest donation brings to seven the number of festivals MTN has supported this year to express appreciation and recognition to the communities in which it operates and its commitment towards unifying people and communities through festivals. The beneficiary festivals are Elmina Edina Bakatue, Oguaa Fetu Afahye, Ada Asafotufiam,Ga Homowo, Akuapem Odwira Winneba Aboakyer and the Eid -Ul-Fitr.

The presentation was made to the Asogli State by Eleanor Adzaho Sarpong (Mrs.), Senior Manager, Government & Regulatory Relations. On behalf of the management and staff of the MTN, we congratulate the Agbogbomefia, his elders and the entire people of the Asogli State on the occasion of the celebration of the Asogli Yam festival.

MTN recognizes the role of festivals in reinforcing community relationships as well as   promoting development. “Unity and Relationships are values MTN associates with and therefore our commitment to support festivals as such”. 

MTN is particularly pleased that His Royal Highness, the Agbogbomefia and Council of Asogli have dedicated this year’s festival to fostering reconciliation and unity among families, clans and the entire Asogli people all over the country to mobilize both human and material resources towards the development of the area.

Already MTN has undertaken various social investment programmes in the area of health and education through the MTN Ghana Foundation.

These projects include the refurbishment of the second floor labor ward of the Korle-Bu Maternity Block at the cost of 600,000 US dollars, the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Sefwi Abono in the Western Region at the cost of GHC 9,311.00, support to the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital at the cost of 91,489 US dollars to construct an Intensive Care Unit and the establishment of ICT centers across each of the ten regions of the country.
